Nodes vs Validators

Different roles, one shared mission — keep the network sovereign and unstoppable.

Node

Network health + data relay

Always needed
  • Verifies the chain and keeps full history available.
  • Relays blocks & transactions across the peer-to-peer network.
  • Improves resilience, latency, and censorship resistance.
  • Can be permissionless and lightweight to run.

Validator

Consensus + block production

Stake-gated
  • Proposes & signs blocks to secure consensus.
  • Earns block rewards + transaction fees.
  • Always runs a node — validators are nodes with extra responsibility.
  • Requires staking the DeFi token to activate validator privileges.

Why nodes matter after Genesis

Even after validator rewards begin, nodes keep the network fast, decentralized, and hard to shut down. Nodes expand global reach, reduce single points of failure, and protect user autonomy.
